Networkmanagement

Der folgende Auszug stammt von der FH-Regensburg (26.12.2006)

1. Network Basics

The standard model for networking protocols and distributed applications is the International Standard Organization's Open System Interconnection (ISO/OSI) model. It defines seven network layers: Physical , Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, Application

2. Structured Cabling

Structured Cabling shows how modern networks are cabled today Further discussion on: Cabling Standards, Copper Cables, Fiber Optics Cables

3. Switching

The term bridging/switching refers to a technology in which a device (known as a bridge/switch) connects two or more LAN segments. Further discussion on: Extending the network, Reduce Congestions, Isolate the network problems, VLAN, Improving Security, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching

4. Routing

The Internet system consists of a number of interconnected packet networks supporting communication among host computers using the Internet protocols. These protocols include the Internet Protocol (IP), the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), the Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP), and a variety transport and application protocols that depend upon them.

5. SNMP & MIB

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) was defined to provide a simple management tool for the Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite of protocols. Since it was developed in 1988, the Simple Network Management Protocol has become the de facto standard for network management. Today it is implemented in a wide variety of devices allowing heterogeneous networks and systems to be managed.

6. Java Network Programming

    * Java Sockets Programming

    * Java SNMP Programming

7. Firewalls

This gives you a introduction to the field of security in the networked world. Basics about the installation and configuration of a router. Installation and Configuration of a Firewall1

8. Case Studies

Campus connectivity over fiber optic cables, Mission-critical network in a military base, Wireless technology extends school's network , Full deployment of layer 3 functionality, Education community network using Telco services.

Also 10 virtual exercises are offered to get practice skills in network management.

This course will be guided with weekly meetings using videoconference environment. Course language is English, the weekly meetings will be in German language.
